The local government here in Ontario, Canada announced a new ‘green’ program for residents that own a detached home in the province. As part of their new ‘cap & trade’ program aimed to lower carbon emissions, the Green Ontario Fund is giving away 100,000 smart thermostat units and also including free installation.
There are a handful of requirements that home owners must meet in order to qualify (ie, no large apartment buildings) but there are 3 different smart thermostat units up for grabs on a first come, first serve basis that retail from $200-$350 plus installation.
These high-tech thermostats can allegedly bring about energy savings of up to 15%, reducing energy usage and associated costs.
